Washer motor and knock sensor

Postby Ninja0n3 on Sat Feb 19, 2011 1:36 am

Hello,

I have two questions about unrelated stuff.

1 - I finally ended up ordering a replacement knock sensor. Turns out I have no idea how to put it in (or more importantly how to take the old one out...), and I'm not sure I want to take apart the whole intake manifold.
Does any one know any good way to do this without putting the Intake manifold into pieces?

2 - I just installed a brand new washer motor pump for the windshield fluid, I installed and wired everything properly, but it seems I have no power to the motor; more importantly, the ground is not being made (I have 12 going in, when I check with the body ground but no ground when I check with the +/- terminals of the pump) when I pull the washer switch.
Does any one have any idea what this could be (is there any fix that does not involve me taking the whole front of my car apart again)?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I will be driving down to DC on the . and I'd like to get these issues sorted.

Thanks!

So I fixed the washer issue by bypassing the pink wire which seemed to have no connectivity to the wiper amp.

I'm still trying to figure out the knock sensor install on the KA without pulling apart the intake manifold...

Its definitely possible to do without taking off the intake.

Here's a good how-to from NWN: http://www.northwestnissans.com/board/showthread.php?t=92829

Are you sure your knock sensor is bad? There is a way to check it, it's in the fsm, don't remember right now.
I used to have that knock code once, I just erased the code and it didn't came back so I didn't bother.
You can just drop by at my place now that you're living so close, I'll scan it and erase and and we'll see if it comes back.

Thanks Bart!

We did erase the codes last time, and they came back. I also visually verified that it is cracked. problem is I have no clue how to properly get it out of there and put the new one in its place...

Last time we did the code clearing, I had the EGR and the knock sensor issues, although by looking around the net, it seems they are both related (when the knock sensor goes for some reason the EGR code appears too).

PM me your address, I'll drop by if you have time this week.

Thanks!!

You can change the knock sensor without removing/dismantling the intake but it's a pain in the ass...
You can get to it from undernetah with teh car on a hoist or stands... you can actually touch it with at least one finger :-)
I've done it once, don't remember any details other than it being a pain.
Probably remove starter, to get some room, woudl be step 1 (oh... disconnect battery is step 1!)
